Tampa’s Top Adolescent Residential Program

When an adolescent is struggling with ongoing symptoms of a mental health concern that have not improved with short-term care, they often need more than a brief hospital stay can provide. At North Tampa Behavioral Health in Wesley Chapel, Florida, we offer a dedicated adolescent residential program for young people ages 12-17 that provides a structured, longer-term experience for kids who need time, stability, and concentrated clinical support to make meaningful progress.

Adolescent Residential Program Overview

Our adolescent residential program in Wesley Chapel, Florida, serves young people ages 12-17 who have received but did not see improvement from inpatient care. This program is designed for adolescents whose needs require sustained, round-the-clock support in a therapeutic environment.

Common concerns we address in our adolescent residential program include:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Self-harm
  • Impulse control difficulties
  • Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or the effects of trauma
  • Disruptive mood dysregulation
  • Panic disorder
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Thought disorders and psychosis
  • Co-occurring substance use disorders

Adolescents typically remain in our residential program for 30-90 days, depending on the complexity of their needs and the progress they make while in our care. This extended time frame allows young people to stabilize, build coping skills, and prepare for a healthy transition back to their homes, families, and communities.

To qualify for admission, an adolescent must meet specific clinical criteria, which generally include a history of multiple inpatient stays. Our admissions team works closely with families and referring providers to determine whether residential care is the most appropriate fit for each child. Our team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to discuss the admissions process and answer any questions you may have.

Therapies & Services Offered

The team that leads our Wesley Chapel adolescent residential program understands that every young person who enters our care brings a unique story, a unique set of strengths, and a unique set of challenges. For this reason, we build individualized care plans that draw from a range of comprehensive therapies and support services.

The therapies and services that may be incorporated in a young person’s plan of care in our adolescent residential program include:

  • Psychiatric services
  • Medication management services
  • Individual therapy as needed or requested
  • Targeted substance use group therapy
  • Family therapy when requested or needed
  • Behavior modification
  • Recreation and leisure activities
  • Pet emotional support
  • Vocational education programming
  • Therapeutic work program
  • Therapeutic group home track
  • On-site school

Group therapy is the primary method of care we use in our adolescent residential program, with multiple group sessions taking place every day. Group therapy sessions are led by clinicians and nursing staff and include process groups, nursing groups, and wrap-up groups. A wide range of topics are covered during these group sessions, including things such as thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and health education. Group settings give adolescents the chance to learn from peers who understand what they’re going through and to practice the interpersonal skills that will support them after they leave the program.

Therapeutic Passes & Visitation

Reconnecting with family and rebuilding life outside of our adolescent residential program is part of preparing for a successful discharge. Adolescents may be eligible for therapeutic passes during their time in the program, and we welcome visitation with family members and other loved ones as a regular part of the treatment experience.

Continuing Care & Discharge Planning

Long-term success requires more than what happens inside a treatment facility. From the moment a young person is admitted to our adolescent residential program in Wesley Chapel, our team begins building a thorough discharge plan so that they can feel confident in how to handle life after treatment.

Discharge planning may include recommendations for ongoing therapy, step-down levels of care like an intensive outpatient program, school reintegration support, and community-based resources. Our goal is to send each young person home with the tools, supports, and connections they need to continue thriving on their healing journey.
